The Children’s Theatre production of The Wizard of Oz honors the classic storytelling of the 1939 MGM motion picture. This production is a timeless experience for all ages. It brings adults and parents a sense of nostalgia for the beloved story they have known. It invites younger generations to experience it for the first time, especially at a time of peak relevance. 

Colors of the rainbow were brought from the sepia-toned beginnings of Kansas to the Technicolor world of Oz, like the bold blue land of the Munchkins and the vibrant green glimmer of the Emerald City. We are taken on a spectacular journey on the iconic yellow brick road as Dorothy and her companions find wisdom, heart, and courage.

The show’s opening with Toto instantly wins over the crowd, and Aniya Bostick as Dorothy delivers a stunning rendition of “Over the Rainbow”, promising an unforgettable musical experience. 

Dean Holt (Scarecrow), Bradley Johnson (Understudy of Tin Man), and Reed Sigmund (Cowardly Lion) balance the brain, heart, and courage of each character, shining with impeccable comedic timing, adding humor and charm to the journey home and showing us the power of friendship. The use of crow puppets in the cornfield was an outstanding performance. 

The choreography is a standout feature, blending energy and elegance to bring each colorful scene to life. The costumes are equally mesmerizing, from Dorothy’s iconic ruby-red slippers to her dramatic dress transformation in the Emerald City, showcasing the creative brilliance of the design team. 

The show further enhances as they bring in technical masterpieces. The immersive projection of the twister pulls the audience into the dark tornado’s spinning chaos. 

Autumn Ness, in her green skin, tickles the familiar cackles and shrills of the wicked witch of the west, bringing intimidation and tension, especially with real fire and smoke throughout the show, enhancing the visuals and magic.

Becca Claire Hart as Glinda glides effortlessly in her bubble, sprinkling snow over the poppies, bringing charm and awe. 

JoeNathan Thomas, as the Wizard, makes his dramatic departure in a hot air balloon, adding to the magic of the spectacle.

This production captures all the heart, whimsy, and wonder of the original tale while showcasing incredible local talent.
