Northside Forward: A Community Revitalization Plan

Asian Media Access joined over 200 community members at the Capri Theater on June 11, 2025, for the official release of the Northside Forward Plan. The event included a cocktail reception, screening of a community-produced short film, and panel discussions with leaders from other successful revitalization efforts. This gathering marked the completion of extensive community planning work involving residents from across North Minneapolis.

AMA has worked with the African American Leadership Forum to host a series of Community Pulse Check with Pan Asian communities in order to develop Northside Forward, a community development blue print for North Minneapolis. In the final version, the plan addresses six areas: corridor and node development, education from early childhood through career training, job creation and new industries, housing diversity, health and safety, and community leadership. It includes specific targets for housing, commercial, and retail development at key locations throughout the area.

The plan emerged from resident input and builds on previous planning efforts in North Minneapolis. It aims to bring $1.5 billion in investment to the area over ten years, along with new jobs and housing units. The approach focuses on community-driven development that works for people who already live in the neighborhood.

The June 11th evening celebrated the culmination of extensive community engagement where residents dreamed together, disagreed, redesigned, and stayed committed to creating a development plan rooted in our lived stories and visionary hope.
